Tactile study

Spreading branch and fossicking root;

trees make branches of the sky

and roots of the earth. Stones harden

to stone the hands that grasp them;

ungraspable water softens the soil.

Season and season again

dust begets dust in my fragile garden

and no matter the advice nor what is tried

fine grass retreats to bindies, harsh underfoot.
