Your body consumes the sun

Your body consumes the sun

and spreads it through the sand.

The sea heaves and fills your eyes

watching me far in the swell

as I am pulled by the tide

and push my way to shore.

The fishermen, monumental and erect

steer their driftwood boats to harvest.

A bonfire burns each night

throwing ash into the humid air

and our words are carried off by swarms of bats

drifting with their prey towards the moon.

The sea roars us awake

and your body lights the room.
